Bad Elster is one of Germany’s most traditional spa towns. Royal hunting lodge and state spa, early stronghold of the Nazis, hospital town in both World Wars, a spa for working people in the GDR era, and to this day a popular spa destination: a tour through the history of the spa town is like a tour through German history.
