Christmas Eve
A FILM BY ANNA SCHMIDT
With the MDR Children’s Choir
Christmas Carols and a Nativity Play
For many families, attending a church service with a nativity play is simply a part of December 24. This year, the COVID-19 pandemic is jeopardizing this cherished ritual: on Christmas Eve, there will be no crowded churches and, in many places, likely no traditional nativity play. For all children and their parents staying at home on the afternoon of December 24 this year, there is still a way to get into the Christmas Eve spirit: the children of the MDR Children’s Choir, who had to forgo many performances during Advent, are guests at St. Paul’s Church in Halle. They present their favorite Christmas carols and a special nativity play: “Paule and the Nativity Play” is a story about friendship and helpfulness, conceived by the well-known youth author Kirsten Boie and co-produced by KiKA and MDR. It is an invitation to sing along and reflect on the message of Christmas.
