The Ten Commandments

Tea Mäkipää has formulated 10 Commandments for the 20th century – 10 commandments that are no longer about interpersonal conduct, but about an equally fundamental issue: the sustainable use of nature and our natural resources. This project earned Mäkipää an invitation to the Sharjah Biennial. And since her first commandment states: “Thou shalt not fly,” the artist traveled from her hometown of Weimar to the United Arab Emirates by train, bus, and ship. She journeyed through Slovenia, Turkey, and Iran together with her husband, Frank Motz, director of the ACC Gallery.
